This might be the best conclusion to a story that I've read in a very long time and I absolutely loved the time in the dragon world. You can really feel Shioris relationship get stronger with her family and a certain someone.. Im not going to say who but they literally are couple goals. But the two characters that surprised me the most was the endearing Takkan and Shiori's stepmother. It was even better than the first book. Ever since I heard that a certain character was making his appearance in this book, I was jumping up and down on my toes, and boy when he made his appearance I was laughing with glee from recognizing a familiar face! So excited to read this after loving the first book. I do wish there was a little bit more interaction with the brothers in the book, because they blended into one a little bit, but that's just personal preference. Cherry on top was Shioris encounter with a young enchanter that we get to know very well in another duology of Elisabeth Lim! I was immediately drawn into the story again and couldn't put the book down. Once again, Shiori has to go through difficult trials to fulfill her promise to return the pearl to its owner, while fighting to keep her loved ones safe, and return peace and magic to her kingdom once more. Shiori and Kiki were delightful, Takkan (<3) was just as charming as always. I liked the plot in Six Crimson Cranes enough to not throw a book with a full cast with Obiwan Kenobi-like names out of the window and to give TDP a try. At the end of the day, the reason why it's 5 stars is that this is a legit great book, and as the first book had something new and different about it, the Dragon's promise continued on that streak and made a proper, magical finish. I am sad to see the end of Shiori and Tekkan's story, BUT I am also happy with how the author wrote the ending. Fans of Shadow and Bone will devour this soaring fantasy. From the witty banter and side comments, Kiki's got spice, spunk, and humor tastefully delivered with a side of sarcasm that is an art form on its own!
